Marco Barra Caracciolo in Italia Informa

2 November 2026

In the September–October issue of Italia Informa, Bludigit’s Chairman and CEO describes the new phase of the Italgas Group’s innovation journey: from agentic AI to knowledge governance, and the role Bludigit plays in bringing to market solutions born from real industrial problems.

The digitalisation that began almost ten years ago laid the groundwork: transformed infrastructure, applications and processes, and a structured, usable body of data. The next step is to become an increasingly AI-driven organisation, rethinking how processes work, how knowledge is organised and how people, data and technology interact. In the Digital Factory, around 70% of the rooms are now dedicated to artificial intelligence projects.

The interview goes into the results measured in the Group’s operations:

  • +10% workforce utilisation in the first five months, driven by field-work scheduling algorithms, with a 95% reduction in the resources previously tied up in manual scheduling
  • −60% in overall handling time for requests and complaints across the initial test scope, using a multi-agent system supervised by people
  • less than 1% of records discarded when cleansing and migrating master data during the integration of 2i Rete Gas, completed in three months

On the ground, digital creates value when it makes a tangible difference to infrastructure and service. One of the examples cited is WorkOnSite, developed in the Digital Factory and now also offered by Bludigit to the wider market. Field crews collect data using tablets, photos, geolocation and checklists. The WoSeye AI engine validates the information, monitors progress and compliance, and flags anomalies or deviations, making the data available to ERP, asset management and GIS systems.

The deeper AI goes into processes, the more central governance becomes: a dedicated AI Policy and standards, governed knowledge bases, new roles for AI, knowledge and data governance, and human oversight of autonomous agents. Alongside this comes training, so that people understand both the potential and the limits of the technology and apply it with awareness.

Bludigit’s task, as the Italgas Group’s digital company, is to build on this experience and turn it into proprietary solutions, offered to external clients in Italy and abroad. The outlook is one of hybrid intelligence: people and agents working together to make networks and processes safer, more efficient, more resilient and more sustainable.
